Avenir Next was created by Adrian Frutige with Monotype type director Akira Kobayashi. Aenir, which means future in french was created from a reaction by the typeface future. Frutige thought futura was too disciplined and wanted to create a more humanist approach. One thing the typeface is known foris being on the buttons on a LG phone because of its Excellent readability. And now BBC2 channel has switched from Gill sans to Avenir Next has their typeface for their channel.
