Georgia
In 1993, Matthew Carter began his work on a new typeface, Georgia, for the Microsoft Corporation. The typeface was designed for the purpose of screen and web-based print. Georgia is a serif counterpart to the first Microsoft sans serif screen font, Verdana, and was inspired by the “Scotch Roman” typeface. The typeface wasn’t released until November of 1996 and included a highly legible font family that had character and charm.
